    Frequently asked Questions

How long does orthopedic surgery take?

The duration of orthopedic surgery will depend on your initial state of health and the operating technique chosen by Dr. Benoit, but on average it takes 30 minutes to 1 hour of surgery for hip and knee replacements.

How long will I have pain after orthopedic surgery?

In principle, pain is well relieved by discharge medication after orthopedic surgery. There may be pain that continues or appears. Initially, the pain may be related to the hematoma, however several reasons are possible.

You will feel more difficulty the day after or two days after your surgery and then little by little everything will return to normal. 7 to 10 days after orthopedic surgery, pain may return due to the disappearance and dispersion of the hematoma.

The pain can also correspond to the prosthesis which takes its place in your joint: do not hesitate to take anti-inflammatories and/or painkillers in this case for 2 to 3 days.

The pain generally disappears completely in time.

When will I be able to walk without canes or walkers after orthopedic surgery?

There are no rules and it depends on each person. Some of you will have tried walking without a cane at the clinic, others may give up after 8, 15 or 45 days.

In principle, we start by keeping only one (the one on the opposite side to the operated side), and we continue to no longer use the walker at home, and then outside. When you can walk well without a cane or walker, you will be able to resume driving the car without the effect of your medication.

How long does it take for complete healing after orthopedic surgery?

    • Skin healing time: 15 days
    • Joint capsule healing time: 45 days
    • Time for complete osseointegration of a prosthesis without cement: 3 months
    • Time to see results on the impact of daily life: 3 to 6 months, with possible improvement throughout the first year

I am very satisfied with the good work of Dr. Benoit and also of his team, with Bérengère his assistant nurse and Sylvie his secretary. Thank you for the good care, the follow-up, and above all the post-operative telephone availability to answer questions and the support obtained. Everything was well coordinated and perfectly organized. Thanks again to the whole team, I am very happy to have trusted you because you are all very professional.

    • Dr. Benoit is an excellent surgeon. Their wonderful team supported me throughout the process that led to the replacement of my right knee in December 2023. Their complicity is reassuring, the duo Dr Benoit and Bérangère do not need to speak to understand each other. A big thank you also to Sylvie who answered my thousands of questions. I recommend the services of Dr. Benoit.

    • I had surgery privately by Dr. Benoit for a hip arthroscopy for a torn labrum. I am delighted with the support from the first consultation to the follow-up after surgery. His assistant Sylvie is smiling, his nurse Bérangère was present before during and after the surgery which gave me confidence for my recovery, she is professional and very attentive and Dr Benoit is, in a word, exceptional. Thanks to all three of them!
